DESCRIPTION:We will be talking about Hendred and Wantage during the War Years and paying particular attention to the importance of Harwell Aerodrome which opened in 1937 and operated as an RAF bomber and training station\, later serving as a key headquarters for No. 38 Group RAF involved in airborne operations during D-Day.\nThe historic airfield site was transferred to civilian use after World War II\, and is now transformed into the high-tech Harwell Science and Innovation Campus. Some of our members have stories about Klaus Fuchs who worked with our Scientists on the Atom bomb at Harwell and also with Robert Oppenheimer in USA and was found out to be a spy passing information to the Russians. \nPlease contact the Wantage Branch for more information or if you wish to attend.
