‘Severn & Wye’ branch meeting: Betjeman & Larkin.
Bill Morris, until recently Head of English at Malvern St. James’ Girls’ School, will be giving a comparison between John Betjeman and Philip Larkin. Bill writes: “Philip Larkin and JB were good friends and occasional collaborators. Outwardly they might seem quite different both as poets and personalities, but there are many parallels in their poems that show a great meeting of minds between two outstandingly sincere and passionate writers. As it happens, both were also amusing letter-writers and conversationalists, which should make them all the more enjoyable to contemplate in each other’s company.”
