Betjeman Society, Wantage 30th Anniversary Lunch – Sunday 17th November
Betjeman Society, Wantage 30th Anniversary Lunch – Sunday 17th November 12.30 for 1pm
Snells Hall, East Hendred – Speaker Judy Dewey ‘Agatha Christie at Home’
Our caterer this year is Sarah Wells, Cordon Bleu Cookery, and I can promise you a wonderful three course lunch, coffee, bubbles or similar on arrival and wine. I thought a talk on Agatha Christie this year would be very interesting and quite by chance was in conversation with Judy Dewey who is the Curator of the Wallingford Museum and she is a great Agatha Christie authority and has written a book entitled ‘Agatha Christie At Home ‘. At home being in Wallingford rather than at her better known residence in Torquay.
Quote from Dr Mark Eldridge who recently gave a talk on Agatha Christie at the Corn Exchange, Wallingford; “I am sure you already know that Betjeman was a Christie fan – in November 1972 he told the Daily Express that he only read poetry and Agatha Christie – but always waited for the paperback! That has always amused me.”
