A wonderful tea party was held by the Society on 28 August at Searcy’s, St Pancras Station to celebrate Bevis Hillier’s belated 80/81st birthday.

Our Past President, Bevis Hillier, turned 81 in March and stepped down as President the previous March. Having been unable to hold his birthday party on or near his birthday either last year or this year, what better day to hold it than JB birthday and what better location than St Pancras Station just yards from his statue.  A traditional afternoon tea party was greatly enjoyed , with birthday cake of course! Philippa Davies gave a enthralling and amusing speech, and made the presentation to Bevis to mark his 80th birthday. Thanking the Society, for his birthday party, and Philippa for her speech and gift, Bevis said how much he enjoyed being part of the Society and being President had been an such an honour.

The Society presented Bevis with a carved cube created by the artist and designer, Lida Cardozo from Cambridge.  The beautifully carved cube was inscribed with an 80 to mark his birthday, the letters BH and, Bevis’s lucky number 28 which of course is the same as JB’s birthday!
