‘The Highgate Highflyers’, on the poets John Betjeman and Gerard Manly Hopkins on Saturday 2 October 2021. This is a joint Betjeman Society and Hopkins Society event under the auspices of the Association of Literary Societies (ALS) of which both societies are members. This replaces a previously advertised ALS Weekend that would have been held in Highgate and at Highgate School where both poets attended. This is an on-line event costing £12.
You will see from the attached programme (below) that the core of the original weekend has been kept, that being a series of lectures from experts on both poets, and on the similarities between them. These are not apparent at first, and therein lies the fascination! As the Betjeman Society has been substantially involved in creating the day we hope you will be able to support the event.
