The Betjeman Society has a new Chairman. Steve Jackson FRSA, a retired Senior Civil Servant and longstanding active member of the Betjeman Society, was elected Chairman at the Society’s annual conference on 9 July 2022 at Marlborough College, Wiltshire, where Sir John Betjeman completed his school education.
The AGM unanimously voted Steve as Chairman following the untimely death of previous Chairman Lance Pierson in 2021. Steve has been a member of the Society since 1991 and has been the Editor of the Society’s Newsletter for 14 years and Honorary Secretary for the last two years.
Speaking at the AGM he said, “I am honoured and delighted to become the new Chairman of the Betjeman Society. I will continue to develop the plans for the Society formulated under Lance Pierson which includes a greater focus on conservation and the built environment, while ensuring Betjeman’s poetry and other writings remain in the public eye.”
Steve Jackson is a semi-retired Education Consultant having been a Chief Executive of three different Careers and Youth Services and a Senior Civil Servant at the Department of Education. He is a graduate in English and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
