An Evening in Metro-Land: Friday 24th February at 5.30
The 50th anniversary of the first screening of Metro-Land is on 26 February 2023.
Metro-Land was written and narrated by John Betjeman for a BBC documentary celebrating suburban life in the area to the north-west of London that was developed along the route of the Metropolitan railway.
We are delighted to host a special evening celebrating this event on Friday 24 February at 5.30 for a film that enjoys classic and cult status in its celebration of a part of London’s suburbia and a personal journey by John Betjeman through some of his favourite parts of London using the Metropolitan line as the route. We will be joined by Society Vice President and Metro-Land producer, Eddie Mirzoeff and we hope to have other special guests joining us too celebrate the milestone. We will be looking at how Metro-Land looks these days and there will be a sprinkling of poetry and prose readings to complement the film.
Please see the Events section for more details. Please let Steve Jackson know via sonjack1@aol.com if you want the zoom link and nearer the time we will be glad to send you this with an update on proceedings.
