Dear Betjeman Society Member
I’ve been informed that the Public Meeting fronted by LISSCA, previously postponed, to rally opposition to the Network Rail planning application will take place on 21 November at the Bishopsgate Institute from 6.00pm.
You will see on the attached press release a link to access the application and register objections, which you may wish you do personally. Over the next couple of weeks I will be guided by LISSCA to help produce a Betjeman Society submission against the application to complement the LISSCA objections. There is LISSCA committee meeting on Monday at 4 to discuss the structure of the meeting on 21 November among other issues. The main strategy is to get the Secretary of State to call it in and make the decision personally. Griff Rhys Jones seems to believe this is very possible, but I guess Michael Gove, the Secretary of State will want to be convinced of the evidence against it and public opinion.
I think the latest planning application appears to be no kind of response to any of the criticisms, but perhaps Network Rail think the scale of funding and Sellers involvement will carry it through. The petition possibly had lost some momentum while there was no planning application in so I hope the publicity will re-energise this and the fund raising. Jonathan Glancey, Patron, and David Meara, President of the Society, are aware of this meeting.
